Do you need to complete a self-assessment tax return?
If you meet one of the following, you will need to submit a tax return for the tax years 6 April - 5 April):
Self-employed (i.e. a Sole Trader) and earned more than £1,000 (before taking off anything you can claim tax relief on)
A Partner in a business partnership
You may also need to submit a tax return if you receive any untaxed income such as:
Rental income
Some COVID-19 grants/support payments
Commission and tips
Income from savings, investments and dividends
Foreign Income
Annual income of £100,000 or more (before tax)
